Mary J. Blige's THE LONDON SESSIONS - Music Review for One2One Network
I have always been a Mary J. Blige fan. I have loved her music since the 90's. "What's the 411?" and "My Life" launched her career into the global superstar she is today. "What's going down?" was one of my favorite songs! She has always had a very emotional element of style in her music and as a woman who has gone through hardship and heartbreak, I connected to her music on a deep level. Her music has gotten me through some tough times! So I was happy to get the opportunity to receive her new album "The London Sessions" before it officially comes out on December 2nd.
"The London Sessions" includes classic Mary J. Blige style, heavily passionate and sentimental songs, like "Therapy", "Not Loving You" (which is my favorite in this album) and "Worth My Time". "Not Loving You" is my favorite because it just reminds me of the days when I listened to Mary J. Blige's songs back in the 90's. The kind of songs that touched you deeply and were perfect for those intensely emotional moments you experienced in your life.
This album is also filled with faster tempo songs like "Right Now" that are still very therapeutic and soulful.
The hip-hop industry wouldn't be the same if Mary J. Blige wasn't a part of it. She has created a great following of loyal fans who have followed her since the beginning of her career for a good reason. I realized after watching her perform "Therapy" on the AMA's last night that although she seems to be the same Mary J. Blige I grew up with (the hip-hop & soul superstar that she is) she is a happier version of her older days and I am happy for her. Although I prefer her slow songs much more than the fast ones, I am still very much a fan!! You will not be disappointed in her new album. There's a little something for everyone. Make sure to purchase "The London Sessions" when it comes out December 2nd!

Neil Diamond's MELODY ROAD - Music Review for One2OneNetwork
I have to admit the last time I remember listening to Neil Diamond's music was when I was being inducted as a US Citizen back in 1987. They played the song "Coming to America" and the hundreds in the room becoming citizens were cheering and clapping, obviously happy for this special moment to be happening in their lives. It was definitely a momentous occasion for sure.
It isn't the style of music I listen to normally so it took me quite some time to listen to the full album. However, I did discover some songs that appealed to me. The lyrics to "Art of Love" reached out to me. Very meaningful words that can be endearing to almost everyone. "Ooo Do I Wanna Be Yours" and "Marry Me" are sweet songs that can win a woman's heart. "Something Blue" is probably the catchiest tune out of the whole album. Overall, I can't imagine myself playing this album regularly but it's worth keeping...for those moments when my inlaws visit. :)

Mary Lambert's HEART ON MY SLEEVE - Music Review for One2One Network
I am so ecstatic to receive this music album. I have heard Mary Lambert's song "Secrets" on the radio and I really love it. After listening to the full album, I have to say that I just adore her voice and her style of music. Her voice is so mesmerizing and reminds me a little of Sarah McLachlan with that gut-wrenching hit-you-in-the-heart-while-it-hurts kind of way. She has a way with words that brings out emotions. She makes you feel [truly, madly] deeply.
"Secrets" really resonated with me. I think I can totally relate to most of the words because I feel like it's my life. It would have been a great theme song for when I was younger when my [original] family was truly dysfunctional and I had just become a new Mom.
Aside from her hit song "Secrets" (my fave), the other songs that really moved me were "When You Sleep", "Monochromatic", and "Wounded Animal". I love slow drawn out make-you-feel deeply type of songs. Maybe it just depends on the mood I am in but these kind of songs make me so emotional. I guess sad songs will do that to ya. There's just something about depressing songs that I connect with so well. I didn't always look at that glass as half full!
"So Far Away" is pretty catchy as well. I think that would be my next favorite song. I really liked her version of "Jessie's Girl". Such a great rendition of a classic song that I grew up with. "Dear One" is a great lyrical poem. I can totally imagine her acting it out on stage on mic night or something.
Mary Lambert is just adorable. After she became popular on the hit song "Same Love" with Macklemore, I was hoping she would come out with her own radio hit and now I am so happy for her. I believe she's just doing fine on her own. :)

One2One Network: Emily Rossum's "Sentimental Journey"
Sentimental Journey, recently released on January 29th, is a collection of classic covers that takes us through the American Songbook. On Sentimental Journey, the multi-talented actress and singer brings her stellar voice to songs popularized by some of the most beloved artists of the last century. Emmy's 12-song 'passion project' is an emotional musical journey, with each song representing a month in the year. "Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month," Emmy explained. "Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months." Rossum is also an acclaimed actress who currently stars in the Showtime series Shameless with William H. Macy. She also stars alongside Emma Thompson and Viola Davis in the upcoming feature film Beautiful Creatures, which hits theaters on February 13th.
My opinion: I really like her voice. It reminds me of Betty Boop and her music reminds me of what they would have played in the Roaring 20's and the 30's. I can picture her as a flapper singing on a stage, big band playing on stage with her, cigar- smoke filled air and lots of mobsters sitting around in the audience admiring her beauty. I have always loved the Bootlegger era and wondered how it would be to live during the time of prohibition, the times of the "New Woman" and music that made people dance without a care in the world. I have always loved cars with suicide doors too so that would have been to ride in along with the gangsters of the day. :)
Anyway, back to the music. Listening to her album took me to a place where I can feel like I am living in that time. Needless to say, close your eyes while listening to the songs. It will just make you feel relaxed, happy and make you wanna dance in your seat. Not sure exactly where these cover songs came from...but I think Ms. Rossum did a great job choosing the right songs that depict the months oh the year perfectly (and suits her personality well).
On another note, this style of music is definitely different than what I normally listen to. But her music is playful and very likeable. I want to play this for my kids and see what they think. It's the kind of music they would want to wiggle to. I can totally see them dancing to the following songs: 3, 7, 11 and 13. :)

BzzAgent: Covergirl Blast Flipsticks Review

I am nowhere near as beautiful as Sofia Vergara, that's a fact. But what's true is that I really love getting FREE stuff! I am so happy to have the opportunity to review the newest line of Covergirl lipsticks called "Blast Flipsticks". Each Flipstick comes with two different colors. One is a lighter, more shimmery color that can be used during the day and the other is a dark, bold color that you can wear at night. The texture of the lipstick itself is really creamy and the color actually stays on for quite a good amount of time. What makes this lipstick somewhat unique is that you can mix both colors to produce a new color effect, which I appreciate. It's like getting two lipsticks for the price of one! For those who know me, I'm all about a bargain. :)
But you know what? I wasn't a huge fan of the two colors BzzAgent sent as samples. The colors minx and vixen were definitely not made for my skin color. I personally would never choose these colors for myself but appreciate the free products very much. I liked the texture though and the fact that the color didn't stain my teeth and that the color remained on my lips for hours even between meals. So I will use my coupons to try some different colors and hopefully I will find one I will like!
THANKS BZZAGENT!

One2OneNetwork: Kylie Minogue's THE ABBEY ROAD SESSIONS Album Review
The
album features many of Kylie's best-known hits including "I Should Be So
Lucky", "Can't Get You
Out Of My Head"
and "The
Locomotion".
Other highlights include fan favorite but previously unreleased "Flower", a song she wrote years
ago following her battle with breast cancer,
an ode to the child she hopes to have one day.
Across all 16 tracks, one thing becomes very clear - stripped of her high-end pop production, the emotional resonance of her songs has never been clearer, nor has her voice ever sounded better. For a preview of the album click here." -One2OneNetwork
My thoughts on the album is that it's not as bad as I expected it to be, nor is it as good as I wanted it to be. I am not that huge of a fan of her voice. I really thought Kylie Minogue was a one-hit wonder back in the day (1987) with "The Locomotion". Then she came out with the song "I Should Be So Lucky" in 1988 and I thought that OK, maybe she does have potential. She topped the charts for a long time with that one, I think. I didn't hear much about her again until 2001 with her son "Can't Get You Out Of My Head". Quite honestly, as much of a hit as that song was, I thought it was just plain annoying. But then again, any song can get annoying after being played for the hundredth time in a given day. So in all fairness, when I signed up to do a review of this album, I am coming from an already pretty biased background of not being a huge fan of Kylie Minogue. I realize that there's something about her voice that I just don't like. I think she's a talented woman and is considerably beautiful, I am just drawn by certain voices and styles of music.
However, if I am to focus on the songs, I do like "I Believe In You", "Confide In Me", "Where The Wild Roses Grow, "Slow", and "Never Too Late". "Flower" is probably the best song out of the whole album. I have never heard these songs before so I am trying to give my honest review based on listening to them just twice. I must confess this album didn't turn me into a new Kylie Minogue fan. It's definitely meant for a certain audience and unfortunately I'm not one of them. I am sure there is a huge fan base out there that will appreciate this album a lot more than I did. :)
*This is a review post from One2One Network. I was provided with a copy of the album and I am eligible for a prize drawing. All opinions stated are my own.
